I Might Look Like This

Or I Might Not

From My Unpublished Book

These are some parts from the outline

Kite Flying

Hal used to get up on the roof on windy days and set a kite flying. Then he’d drop the string and let us have a go at it. We would take a piece of the Sunday Comics and put it around the string and the wind would carry it up to the kite.

Christmas

Mom and Dad always made Christmas special. A beautiful tree, lots of decorations and presents piled up to the ceiling. Dad would go out to the sandbox and draw 2 parallel lines in the sand. Then after opening presents, we would all go outside to see where Santa had landed his sleigh.

Teen Age Theft

While talking to my sister the other day I mentioned that I used to steal smokes from a particular pharmacy that was on my way to Jr. High. She surprised me and said that she too stole smokes from the same store. So how many kids were stealing cigarettes from this store anyway?

Step Mom Was a Bitch (and a TV Star)

When I was 13 I got to walk around the CBS lot in the Valley. I saw the Gilligan’s Island lagoon, minus the tropical forest. I was able to go to the indoor set that Gunsmoke had moved into. It looks like it was outside, but it was indeed inside. The Get Smart set for the Chief’s office was there, minus the “cone of silence”. My Step-mother told me if anyone asked me, just refer them to her. But no one stopped me or inquired about why I was there. It certainly was more interesting than sitting in a studio watching them make a lame sit-com. Although I did get to meet Bob Denver.

Birthday

For my 8th Birthday, I received the soundtrack album from “Mary Poppins”. I just loved it. Still have it too, with my name and date written on top of the back cover. I think it’s one of the only things I still have from then.
